Herb & Flower Gardens

We have always been keen on growing herbs and flowers, especially medicinal herbs and flowers for the home.

We now have the opportunity and the land to do so. However, this will require some effort. At present there are minimal flower beds and there is small herb patch.

Adjacent to the house is a raised bed that we attempted to grow a few herbaceous plants in. But the soil is clay and over summer became rock hard. A high Ph also limits what can be grown .

Away from the house is an overgrown area with a few very sad looking olive trees. But this feels a special place, private but not isolated, gently sloping and ideal for a medicinal herb garden longer term.

Purple – a number of lavender rows.
These are a precursor to the main lavender field being planned.

There plant bought in the autumn that need planting. These can also serve a base for propagation for the lavender field.

Orange – a small culinary herb garden next to the pizza oven.
This should be extended the complement the wild culinary herbs that are abundant in the fields.

Blue – the existing flower beds.
This is an area next to the well plus a raised area with some shrubs.

Yellow – a major project to develop the medicinal herb garden.
This season will be about planning and preparing the area.

This a probably the most unkept area thee is with massive bramble hedges hiding the embankment

Green – the existing veg gardens. The strip next to the path will be mixed planting with flowers such as sweet peas along the trelisses.

The intent is mixed planting of plants to grow up the trellis with lower planting in front of that.
